Tata Tiago EV: Tata Motors has announced that it will launch the Tiago EV, expanding its lineup of electric vehicles. When the Tata Tiago EV is launched in India, it will be India’s cheapest electric hatchback.
Tata Tiago EV is likely to be priced under Rs 10 lakh in India. The Tiago EV was first unveiled at the Auto Expo 2018 and is expected to be launched in India by 2020. However, this car was not launched by the company. Tata is currently selling Nexon EV, Nexon EV Max and Tigor EV electric cars.
It is expected that Tata Motors will use the same Ziptron technology for Tiago EV, which they are using for Tigor EV and Nexon EV. The Ziptron technology is more advanced than the Xpres-T technology, which was previously used for the Tigor EV in the commercial segment.
Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles said, “Today is an important day for us. We announce the expansion of our EV segment with the Tiago EV. The country’s largest EV car will be launched later this month.
Tata Tigor EV price starts at Rs.11.99 lakh. On behalf of the company, the battery and motor of this car are being given a warranty of 8 years or up to 1.6 lakh km. The Tata Tigor EV packs a 26 kWh lithium-ion battery. It has a 55 kW (74.7 PS) motor, which generates 170 Nm of torque. It has multi drive modes. It can accelerate from 0 to 60 kmph in 5.7 seconds. It has a single speed transmission, which gives the feel of an automatic transmission.
This car will consume around 26 units of electricity once fully charged ie if Rs. 6/ If the unit electricity rate is considered then it will cost 156 rupees for one full charge and then it will run about 300 km. Thus, its cost per kilometer will be around 52 paise.
The company plans to reveal the price and other specifications of the Tiago EV in the coming weeks. However, according to market estimates, the electric version of Tiago can be launched around 12.5 lakh.
